Wizards re-sign F Josh Howard

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Washington Wizards signed free agent forward Josh Howard to a one-year deal Friday.

Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. However, TNT analyst David Aldridge reported earlier in the week that the deal could pay the veteran up to $4 million if he is able to reach incentive clauses.

The Wizards acquired Howard from Dallas in February as part of a seven-player deal that sent forward Caron Butler to the Mavericks.

He suffered a torn ACL in his left knee a week after he was traded and missed the remainder of the season after playing in only four games for the Wizards.

"We were impressed with Josh's versatility, how well he fit in with our team and his attitude and work ethic both before and after his unfortunate knee injury," said Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld. "His experience playing in a winning situation makes him an ideal veteran presence for us as we develop our roster of young talent."

A product of Wake Forest, Howard averaged 12.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 35 total games last season for the Mavs and Wizards.

Over his seven-year career, with those two teams, he has posted per game averages of 15.3 points and six boards in 435 contests, 371 as a starter.
